Wheels are constantly exposed to grime that is particularly difficult to remove. Ingrained brake dust, road splashes, greasy film and pollution residue quickly accumulate, especially on vehicles used daily. When fouling becomes significant, a standard "wheel cleaner" can quickly show its limits.

Our Hard Wheel Cleaner has proven itself and is designed for demanding and extreme situations. Its formula is acid-free and its pH is 14, which makes it a very powerful detergent; it deeply cleans your wheels and gives them an incomparable shine in just 1 minute. It effectively lifts and dissolves the most stubborn grime, so you can get clean, spotless wheels without resorting to excessive mechanical action. It is particularly suited to very dirty wheels that have not been maintained for a long time or are not cleaned regularly.

We generally recommend it for wheels maintained up to a maximum of 6 times a year.

This cleaner is ideal for motorists who drive a lot, wash every 2 months and want an effective solution without needing to scrub, for occasional restoration before gentler maintenance, decontamination or the application of a protection. It provides a clean, healthy base to start from, making future washes easier.

A best-seller in the Shine range, the Hard Wheel Cleaner is appreciated for its genuine effectiveness and fast action.

A very effective and practical product to use, it is gentle on the surface of your wheels thanks to its carefully developed formula while retaining optimal effectiveness. This product attacks the alumina layer and removes the black deposits from the brakes. As it corrodes aluminium, the contact time must be very short.

Prohibited for use on motorcycles.

Reserved for automotive use only. Use on a motorcycle is strongly discouraged.
Be careful with wheels made of specific alloys as well as certain caliper paints.
Do not use on ceramic brakes.
Do not use on unlacquered or anodised aluminium (FUCHS wheels, etc.)

  1. Spray the surface to be treated
  2. Leave to work for 1 minute maximum
  3. Rinse thoroughly with a high-pressure jet

N.B.: Do not apply to hot wheels or in direct sunlight. Do not let the product dry. Avoid use on very sensitive wheels without a prior test. Always rinse thoroughly after application.

Good to know:

Wearing protective equipment is mandatory: gloves, mask and goggles
Acid-free product
Reserved for occasional cleaning
For regular cleaning, Shine recommends the Soft Wheel Cleaner.

In certain truly extreme cases, the Hard Wheel Cleaner can also be combined with mechanical action during application. In that case, we recommend using a detailing brush as well as an XL or XS wheel brush, depending on the model and design of your wheels.

Frequently asked questions

On which types of wheels can the Hard Wheel Cleaner be used?

The Shine Hard Wheel Cleaner is compatible with most lacquered, painted and treated wheels. It is recommended to test on an inconspicuous area before first use, particularly on sensitive or specific wheels.
It is not advised on wheels or calipers that have been repainted, on ceramic brakes, or on unlacquered or anodised aluminium (such as FUCHS wheels, etc.).

What is the difference between a hard wheel cleaner and a soft wheel cleaner?

A hard wheel cleaner is designed for very heavily soiled wheels and ingrained grime. A soft wheel cleaner is gentler and is used for the regular maintenance of lightly or moderately soiled wheels.
We generally limit the number of uses per year to 6 for the hard version, which amounts to roughly one cleaning every two months.

Can the hard wheel cleaner damage my wheels?

Used on the right surfaces and in compliance with the usage precautions, the Shine Hard Wheel Cleaner does not damage the wheels. It is designed to be used on lacquered, painted or protected wheels, under normal conditions of use.

From a technical standpoint, it is a high-pH detergent cleaner containing potassium hydroxide. This type of formulation works effectively to dissolve stubborn grime and help remove iron particles and brake dust residue ingrained on the surface of the wheels.
As wheels are generally made of aluminium, a risk may exist if the substrate is damaged, unlacquered, oxidised or without protection. In these specific cases, a highly alkaline product can react with the bare material.

This is why it is important to always use this cleaner on wheels in good condition, not to let it dry, and to observe the recommended dwell times. If in doubt, a prior test on an inconspicuous area is strongly recommended.
