Even after a careful wash, the bodywork can retain contaminations that are invisible at first glance but clearly present to the touch. These residues, coming from pollution, road spray, or industrial fallout, gradually become ingrained in the clear coat and alter the appearance and smoothness of the surface.

The Shine Medium Clay Bar works mechanically to lift off these particles without attacking the bodywork when used correctly with a suitable lubricant. Its medium hardness level offers an excellent compromise between effectiveness, handling, and decontamination, which makes it perfectly suited to use even in hard-to-reach areas,

After its use, the surface becomes smooth, clean, and ready to receive a wax, a sealant, or a ceramic protection, thus improving the adhesion and durability of the applied protections.

  1. Wash the vehicle carefully before use.
  2. Generously lubricate the surface to be treated with a suitable lubricant.
  3. Slide the clay bar without excessive pressure using straight-line movements.
  4. Rinse or wipe the area regularly with a clean microfibre.
  5. Fold the bar to present a clean face as you go along.

N.B: The bar is delivered in a plastic box in which it can be stored after use if it is not too contaminated.

Always use the clay bar with a lubricant, never dry. Do not apply excessive pressure. Do not use on a dirty or hot surface. If the bar falls to the ground, stop using it in order to avoid any risk of scratches.

Frequently asked questions

What is a car clay bar used for?

A clay bar removes contamination ingrained in the clear coat that a conventional wash cannot eliminate, in order to regain a smooth and clean surface.

What is the difference between a soft, medium, and hard clay?

A soft clay is intended for light contamination and very sensitive vehicles, such as recent or fragile bodywork.
A medium clay offers greater decontamination power while remaining suitable for private use for more marked contamination.
Hard clay, meanwhile, is designed to remove very ingrained contamination on heavily exposed or neglected vehicles. It requires more precautions in use and is generally reserved for specific cases, as its abrasive power is higher.

The harder the clay bar, the harder and more rigid it is, and therefore the more difficult to use. This is why we decided to select the Medium version, which represents the best compromise in 90% of uses and needs.

Should the bodywork be protected after the clay?

Yes, it is strongly recommended to apply a Shine Ceramic Protection spray after clay decontamination, or, failing that, a wax or a quick detailer. Indeed, the clay leaves the surface bare, which makes it more sensitive to external aggressions.
